PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN & AN AMERICAN

Sadly, thanks to progressive liberalism in our churches and public (and even private) education, we no longer recognize or acknowledge our own Christian or American history.  For some reason we now believe that we should be ashamed of our freedoms and rarely can philosophically put who and what we are into context.  Simply put, I am Christian, I am also an American, through and through and would gladly give my life for the defense of each.

When I say that we are a Christian nation I am correct, but in a way that most people don’t understand.  Granted, our Founding Fathers’ generation were primarily Christian, it was a huge part of our culture.  Our concept of American liberty emerged from a Western intellectual tradition in which Christian theology spent more than one-thousand years cultivating the thoughts to limit the claims that earthly rulers could hold us down and rule our lives.

Although this long thought process started with the Greeks, Romans, or Jews, Christian theologians were doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes with what originally was called the “Way” or what I call the “Jesus factor.”  All of this was done to define REAL freedom and liberty.

Historically, there is a direct line from Augustine to Aquinas to Luther’s Reformation to Calvin and Huguenot Resistance Theory to Locke to the American Revolution.  In our American spirit of freedom and liberty, you don’t necessarily have to be a Christian, but at least recognize where these philosophical tenets were derived.  But if you DO call yourself a Christian, we have many virtues and moral values to uphold as Americans.  We are currently in spiritual and soon a physical fight for our survival.  Put on the whole armor of God, keep your bead in the cross-hairs, and your eyes on the horizon.
